BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification)

email authentication standard

01 Definition

BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification) meaning: A standard that displays a brand's verified logo beside authenticated email in the inbox.

BIMI, or Brand Indicators for Message Identification, lets a brand show its logo next to messages in supporting inboxes. It requires a DMARC policy at quarantine or reject, plus a specially formatted logo file. Some providers also require a verified mark certificate. It signals authenticity but does not itself filter mail.

Why it matters

How BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification) fits the work

BIMI rewards strong authentication with a visible logo that can improve brand recognition in a crowded inbox, and it depends on having DMARC enforcement already in place.

In context

Once DMARC reached enforcement, the brand published a BIMI record so Gmail and Apple Mail could show its verified logo beside campaigns.

Practical note

BIMI is not universally supported, and many mailbox providers require a paid Verified Mark Certificate proving trademark ownership before they will display your logo.
