Engaged Session

analytics metric

01 Definition

Engaged Session meaning: An engaged session is a visit that met Google Analytics 4's engagement threshold.

In Google Analytics 4, an engaged session lasts longer than 10 seconds, has a conversion event, or includes at least two pageviews or screenviews. Sessions that fail all three tests are non-engaged. The 10-second threshold can be adjusted up to 60 seconds in settings.

Why it matters

How Engaged Session fits the work

Engaged sessions replace the old bounce framing with a positive signal, making it easier to see how many visits showed real interest.

In context

A visit that lasted 25 seconds and viewed one page counted as an engaged session under the default 10-second time threshold.

Practical note

The engagement threshold is a rough rule, so a session can qualify from time alone without a meaningful action; review conversions and events for depth.
